Dr Martin R. Gill
Group Leader and Senior Lecturer in Chemistry

Martin is from near Llanelli in west Wales and obtained a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Bristol and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield. After staying in the steel city with EPSRC and Wellcome Trust Fellowships, Martin then undertook further postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, Department of Oncology. In 2019, Martin returned to Wales in the Department of Chemistry at Swansea University. Martin is a fan of both the Scarlets and Wales and his other interests include hiking, bouldering, music, gaming and travel.

Natália Kolozsvári

Natália studied at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics before starting her PhD in the group in October 2021. Her research is examining the chemical biology of mismatch DNA utilising ruthenium metallo-intercalators.

Nur Aininie Yusoh

Ninie started her PhD at the Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia in October 2020. Her research is on anti-cancer drug combinations utilizing PARP inhibitor olaparib. 

Ninie is co-supervised with Prof. Haslina Ahmad, UPM.

Jacob Isaac

Jacob is a graduate of Swansea University and joined the group in 2023. His primary supervisor is Dr Emrys Evans and his research is examining radical materials and devices. Jacob's often doing pretty adventurous things like climbing and pilgramages!

Gan Yian Chee

Gan Yian Chee from Johor, Malaysia, received her BSc. (Hons) in Petroleum Chemistry from the University of Putra Malaysia in 2019. Her current PhD work is concerned with synthesis, DNA binding properties, and drug combination studies of Ru(II) anticancer complexes. 

Gan is co-supervised with Prof. Haslina Ahmad, UPM.

Past members:

Steffan James. A Swansea chemistry graduate, Steff did his final year project in the group and liked it so much he did his MRes here! Steff earned a PhD place in Imperial College London.

Dr Chris Elgar. Chris was the group's first postdoc, played a vital role in setting up the lab, and then moved on to a postdoc in Leicester.

Paul Tiley. Paul joined the group as an MRes student and was the first official member of the group! He then undertook a PhD in Reading.
